Active in the ministry for over 40 years, Pastor Don Lowry and his wife, Betty, have served Summit View Baptist Church since 1988. After graduating from Toccoa Falls Bible College in 1968, Pastor Lowry began as a home missionary to the Appalachian region of Kentucky, where he and Betty ministered for 20 years in two different pastorates and at a Christian camp. First, he pastored a Christian Missionary Alliance church in Warbranch, for 5 years, and served as camp director of Camp Begomi, a sister ministry. Later he pastored a Bible church in Harlan County for 15 years, where he directed the building of a new church facility.
In addition to his ministry at SVBC, Pastor Lowry has also served, since 1999, on the board of Source of Light Ministries International, a correspondence school ministry that offers courses ranging from an introductory study of the gospel of John to full Bible institute courses.
Pastor Lowry writes a regular opinion column entitled "Summit View" for the
Times Examiner
newspaper.
You can read several of his articles by visiting the
Summit View
category under the Opinion section of the Times Examiner website.
Under the leadership of Pastor Lowry, SVBC focuses on the family and relationships, rather than programs. His expository preaching teaches through whole books of the Bible. His favorite Bible verses summarize his pastoral emphasis: “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6).
